Carol Silberg Obituary

Carol Silberg, 82, passed away peacefully in Columbia, MD.

Born in Scranton on August 17, 1943, Carol was the youngest child of Harold Weber and Evelyn Blum Weber. She was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and proud grandmother. Active in the Hazleton Jewish community, she worked for a time at the JCC and was a member of Beth Israel Temple where she taught Sunday school and served as president of Hadassah.

After graduating from Wilkes College, she became an elementary school teacher, then stepped away to raise a family. When she later returned to working with children as an autism therapeutic support specialist, she was incredibly patient and dedicated to her kids, their pictures finding a way onto her refrigerator among those of her own family. Indeed, her home was filled with photos and well-paged-through albums of family across all generations.

Strong, independent, thoughtful, and highly charitable, she regularly made donations to a number of causes. She genuinely had a hard time turning aside any request for support, finding the room to give even after retiring.

She is predeceased by her brother - David Weber, sisters - Sandra Ziman and Rosalie Becker, and daughter - Meredith Alene Silberg, and survived by her sons Steven (Jessica) of Baltimore, MD and Jed (Sharon), and grandsons, Max and Gus, of Chicago, IL.

A graveside service will be held Sunday at 10 a.m. in the Dalton Jewish Cemetery by Rabbi Daniel Bubnis.

Seudat Havra’ah to follow internment at Downtown Deli and Eatery, 300 Biden Street, Scranton, PA 18503.

There is no local shiva.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any of her favorite charities including American Jewish Committee, St. Jude’s, and the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Northeast Regional Food Bank. Donations may also be made to the Meredith Alene Silberg Endowment Fund at Beth Israel Temple in Hazleton, PA.
