Catherine Wiltshire Obituary

Catherine Scartelli Wiltshire, 91, passed away peacefully on May 7th at her lifelong home in Scranton. She was the daughter of Ralph and Annette Galdieri Scartelli.

A graduate of West Scranton High School, Catherine went to work at The Blouse Factory, followed by Linder Brothers and then Scartelli Construction Services. Anyone who knew her knew she was an angel on earth. She was a compassionate, hospitable, hard-working woman who was always willing to help and take care of others. Catherine was a faithful, lifelong member of St. Ann’s Monastery and volunteered with St. Ann’s Novena when it first began, serving coffee, cleaning up, and replacing candles. Whenever someone needed a ride, whether friend, neighbor, relative, or stranger, Catherine was up for the task and constantly did it with a smile on her face and love in her heart.

Catherine was a loving aunt and a welcoming soul. She was known for her homemade Italian foods as well as her “famous” rice pudding and coleslaw. No one left her house without eating a meal or a snack. Her nieces and nephews were the light of her life. She babysat and played with them, taught them to drive, cooked for them, and helped raise them. She was the most amazing caretaker to all with whom she came into contact. A kind and caring person, she will be deeply missed by all who knew her, including her constant companion and buddy Dusti Bear, a Bichon Shih Tzu.

She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Wiltshire, sister Ann Iacobino, brother Dominick Scartelli Sr., brother-in-law Joseph “Juggy” Roth Sr. and nephew Joseph Roth Jr.

She is survived by her sister Nina Roth and brother-in-law Dominick Iacobino. She is also survived by nieces and nephews Debbie Best (Mike), Ralph Scartelli (Jean), Donna Cadden (Jim), and Carl Scartelli (daytime caregivers) and evening caregiver Dominick Scartelli Jr. (fiancé Trish).  She leaves behind many great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces,  great-great nephews, and cousins.

Heartfelt thanks to the entire staff at 65Forward, especially Dr. Steven Sluck and Nurse Carol Jonsson, the nursing staff from Hospice of Sacred Heart, as well as Fr. Richard Burke, Abby, Dee, Diane, and Mari.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Ann’s Monastery and Shrine Basilica, 1233 St. Ann Street, Scranton. A visitation will be held on Tuesday at Savino Traditional Funerals & Cremation Care, 157 S. Main Ave, Scranton, from 5 pm to 7 pm. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst Township.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Catherine’s name to St. Ann’s Monastery, Scranton Pa or Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore, PA.
