David M. Weinberger, Ph. D. Obituary

David M. Weinberger, Ph.D., of Shavertown, passed away peacefully Friday, Sept. 16, 2022, with his loving wife, Nancy; daughter, Allison; sister, Margery; and nephew, Ryan by his side.

David was born March 15, 1946, in Scranton, to attorney Julius and Ruth Kurtz Weinberger.

David was raised in Northeastern Pennsylvania, attending James Madison Elementary School and Wyoming Seminary in Kingston. In 1968, David earned a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from the University of Pittsburgh. In 1970, he went on to earn a master's in psychology from the Virginia Commonwealth University. It was in 1975 when he earned his Ph.D. from American University and he would become affectionately known as Dr. David Weinberger to countless patients, colleagues, family members and friends.

For over 35 years, Dr. Weinberger enjoyed an extremely rewarding career as a psychotherapist. Dr. Weinberger was committed to providing the best possible care to his patients in an atmosphere of trust and confidentiality. David's goal in life was to leave his community in a better place. His achievements were evident when people would proudly tell David's wife, Nancy, how he changed their life for the better.

The happiest day of David's life was May 24, 1997, when David married the love of his life, Nancy. This past May, David and Nancy celebrated 25 years of love and commitment. In 2007, David officially adopted Nancy's daughter, Allison. The gift of fatherhood was a treasure that David valued and smiled about for the rest of his life. In 2012, David's memorable smile grew a little wider when he became "GrandPa" to Allison and Randy's twins, Harrison and Hunter. David and Nancy adored their trips to Plano, Texas, to see Allison, Randy and "the boys."

David's passing leaves this world void of a beacon of light to so many who relied on him. He is survived by his devoted wife, Nancy; loving daughter, Allison and her husband, Randall; twin grandsons, Harrison and Hunter; sister, Margery Tintner and her husband, Ronald Glou; nephews, Ryan and Joshua Tintner; and numerous cousins.

As we remember David, let us remember his best "David-isms":

"There's a difference between being in a relationship and building one."

"It is through our relationships that we will be defined and how our quality of life is defined."

David's funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday from Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore. Interment will follow in the Dalton Jewish Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 10 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.
