Domenica C. Fusco

Domenica "Margaret" Fusco, 94, of Jefferson Township, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2026, at Allied Skilled Nursing Facility in Scranton.

Born in Sambatello-Diminniti, Italy, Domenica was the daughter of the late Francesco Vitarisi and Maria Chirico.

Domenica immigrated to the United States and joined her brother Nick in Salamanca, New York. Her father and youngest brother, Peter, later joined the family from Italy. Seeking new opportunities, Domenica eventually moved to Scranton, where she attended the Lackawanna Academy of Beauty Culture and earned her beautician's license. She later worked for many years as a seamstress, a profession that reflected her creativity, patience, and attention to detail.

She married Giuseppe "Joe" Fusco, a fellow Italian immigrant, shortly after his arrival in the United States. The two settled in Scranton and were married at St. Lucy's Church, beginning a loving partnership that would span more than five decades. Together they built a home filled with laughter, tradition, faith, and unwavering devotion to family.

Above all else, Domenica treasured her family. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, and proud grandmother whose greatest joy came from gathering loved ones around her table. She welcomed everyone with a homemade meal and likely added a notch to their beltline with every visit. Her warmth, generosity, and quiet strength touched all who knew her. She also enjoyed sewing, crochet, needlepoint, sketching, and spending time outdoors, especially in the warmth of the sun. Her feisty spirit will be long remembered by the generations of family whose lives she touched.

Domenica was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe; her parents, Francesco and Maria; two infant siblings; and a brother, Peter Vitarisi Sr.

She is survived by her daughters, Sina Kniseley and her husband Richard of Crofton, MD, and Maria Scheller and her husband Jason of Arlington, VA; six cherished grandchildren; her brother, Nicolas "Nick" Vitarisi and his wife Carol; and many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members whom she held dear in her heart.

The funeral will be held on Monday, August 31 at St. Patrick’s Church, 1403 Jackson Street in Scranton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. The family will receive visitors at the church beginning at 9 a.m. until the time of Mass. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) in Domenica's memory.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the caregivers and staff of Allied Skilled Nursing Facility for the compassion, dignity, and care they provided to Domenica during her final days.
